Das Kirchenfenster // The stained-glass window of the Saint Nicholas Church

Das Kirchenfenster wurde 2008 vom Latscher Ehrenbürger Prof. Dr. Manfred Fuchs gestiftet und vom Südtiroler Künstler Robert Scherer entworfen und angefertigt. Die Darstellung zeigt den Heiligen Nikolaus von Myra, der der Legende nach den drei Jungfrauen drei goldene Kugeln zuwirft, um sie vor der Schande zu retten, nicht standesgemäß verheiratet zu werden. Die dominante rote Farbe des Glasfensters sowie die umgekehrte Darstellung der St. Nikolaus-Kirche stellt die Bedrohung der Kirche in der heutigen Zeit da.

The stained-glass window was donated by Prof. Dr. Manfred Fuchs, honorary citizen of Laces, in 2008 and was designed and made by the South Tyrolean artist Robert Scherer. It represents St. Nicholas of Myra who, according to legend, gives three golden balls to three virgins to save them from the shame of not being able to marry within their social class. The dominant red colour of the stained-glass window and the reverse representation of the Saint Nicholas Church represent the threat to the church these days.
